Date: December 5th, 2003

Here comes December! It's getting cold here in Tokyo and
is known as perfect season for hot-pot dishes. As you
well know, December is the one of the best month for
eating oyster as well. In this connection, as western
proverb advices "Don't eat oysters unless there is an R
in the month", we Japanese have a similar phrase "Don't
eat oyster after the season of viewing cherry blossoms."
It just occurred to me, "People from western country
often surprise that Japanese eat uncooked sea foods, but
they also eat raw oyster with lemon, spicy cocktail sauce,
Tabasco, etc. Is that mean that oyster is an exception?
Moreover, I have heard that U.S is the country of the
greatest consumption of oysters. "The best way of eating
oyster is raw", is this common sense in the world?
In Japan we can taste various kinds of oyster's recipes
such as fried oyster, Oyster Nabe (=one of hot-pot cook)
that is to eat oyster and vegetable by putting miso paste
on the edge of clay pot.
Everyone who came from overseas, if you have never tried
yet, why don't you try?

<Japanese>
