How are you? The time of sunset is gradually slowing down,
and I feel spring coming just around the corner.
By the way, while we have introduced the column of Japanese
food culture, recently a sales promotion in confectionery (cake)
trade is heating up with great force. One after another, every
department store has invited and set up a famous patisserie from
Europe. And, a long awaited "Jiyuugaoka Sweets Forest", which
is gathering of popular cake shops has opened in Tokyo last
November, where we can sample limited cakes, marvel at the
world famous pattissier's work and make a delectable round of
several confectioneries.
Lured to such sweet incentives, roughly 260,000 people visit the
premise in a month. Speaking of cakes, an old-fashioned Japanese
man would likely say "I don't eat sweets because I'm a man!"
Times have changed. Now we often see some pages dedicated to
introducing tasty cakes and cake shops even in a men's magazine.
Gentlemen, fret no longer, now you are openly welcome to proclaim
"I love sweets!" and "I love cakes!" without shame.
Anyhow, one would be pleased to know that a sweet and peaceful
bliss is only 1 coin (JPY500=US$4.5) while choosing a great tasting
work of art that melts in your mouth.

 少しずつ日も延びて、春の訪れを実感する今日この頃、皆さんお元気
 ですか?
 さて、以前日本の食文化についてご紹介しましたが、近年、日本の
 ケーキ業界はすごいことになっています。東京のデパートではヨーロ
 ッパの有名洋菓子店を次々と出店、そしてついに昨年は人気の洋菓子
 店をひとつのビルに集約した「自由が丘スウィーツフォレスト」が
 オープン。ここでは人気パティシエの限定品が食べられる、ケーキが
 作られる工程が間近で見られる、そしてケーキのはしごが出来るという
 3つの利点によって1ヶ月で26万人ものもの人が訪れたそうです。
 ケーキというと、見た目の可愛らしさからでしょうか、「男がそんな
 甘いものを食べられるか」というのがひと昔前の日本の男性像でした
 が、今や男性誌でも美味しいケーキのランキングが紹介されるほど。
 漸く男性が堂々と「ケーキ大好き」と言える時代になったということ
 でしょうか? なにはともあれ、美味しくて、見た目にも芸術性を感じ
 ることのできる「500円で買える幸せ」に心が和むのでしょうね。
