For the year 2005, our first restaurant intro is an Oyster bar. Oyster is
such a popular food in Japan, it's not surprising that every new oyster
bar that comes out will be jam packed full and you'd be hard pressed to
get a reservation, let alone dream of a quite table for two. In cold season
fishes brace up their bodies and gain fat, and the seafood becomes ever
more succulent. Oysters also become delicious and good enough to be eaten
raw. Obviously, the arrival of winter season is welcomed by all oyster
lovers.
The oyster bar we introduce to you today is called "Mai-mon" located
at Ebisu. This is not only an oyster bar, but also a place where you can
order various kinds of other foods. Mai-mon is not a spacious restaurant,
but the limited space is effectively used, especially on the 2nd floor
where there are several tiny rooms and a low ceiling, the tight space allowing
for increased coziness and privacy.
If you go to an oyster bar, by all means try them raw! At "Mai-mon"
you can enjoy oysters from all over the world. "Oyster Platter"
is assorted 5 pieces of oysters from Japan and Australia and the United
States...so on. These are served with 5 kinds of sauce including plum,
lemon-soy sauce, wine vinegar...etc. It depends on your taste which sauce
you choose, but fresh oyster's creaminess will better suit lighter flavorful
sauces, the harmony of which transports you to oblivion, a supreme bliss
for oyster-lovers!
As you can enjoy oysters from all over the world, we recommend you to try
not only raw oysters but also various kinds of cooking styles; deep-fry
or oven-baked or gratincetc. Oyster Rockefeller is the baked oyster with
spinach and white sauce, Grilled Oysters with Garlic Butter is simple but
delicious, Deep Fried Oysters...the list goes on. Your everyday oyster
may turn in to a brand-new surprise. Obviously, the restaurant also caters
to not so faithful oyster eaters, and you may enjoy varieties of other
fresh seafood, grilled meat or salads. But for those die-hard fans of oysters,
how about a finishing blow of rice dish with plenty of oysters? Oyster
Kimchee Fried Rice is unique and delicious dish with Kimchee (Korean pickles)
adding a refreshingly spicy balance to the creamy oysters and stir-fried
to perfection.
Don't miss the good season for eating fresh oysters!
