As I told you last week, March is a time of graduation in Japan. That means that April is a time of entrance into school. Among those who start brand-new school life from April, there are some people that move to metropolitans from suburban cities and vice versa, that may make their living environment change dramatically. They must be so busy preparing for their new life and it's the best time for real estate agents as well. A few weeks or months later, while we start out on an exciting new life, we find ourselves longing for our hometowns. Even people with brass nerve like me, got a homesick when I had a home stay in U.S. Although we use Japanese word "ho-mu shikku" as the meaning of "homesick", you had better use "miss" instead of "homesick" in English conversation as "I miss my hometown, Nagano". <Japanese> こんにちは、Treasure Box 発行人にまるです。 先週、３月は卒業式シーズンとお話しましたが、 ということは、来月４月は新入学。 ４月からの新生活をスタートする人の中には地方から 都市へ、またはその反対へと、生活環境が変わる人も いますね。 ３月はその準備で大忙し、同様に不動産屋さんもかき 入れ時です。 ドキドキ＆ワクワクな新生活がスタートして数週間 あるいは数ヶ月後、ふと感じるのがホームシック。 図太い神経の私でも初めてアメリカでホームステイを した時は、人並みにホームシックに陥ったこともあり ましたっけ。 日本語ではホームシックと言いますが、英会話では ホームシックではなくmiss（〜を寂しく思う）を 使う方が自然です。 I miss my hometown, Nagano. のようにね。 =========================================================== + CULTURE "CAPSULE HOTEL" [URL] http://www.jpn-miyabi.com/Vol.31/capsule.html Guess what on earth is the one that the Japanese with a long foreign life miss very much? The answer must be various but I often hear is "Safe downtown". There are not so many countries we can drink outside as safely and happily as Japan till a late at night. There are usually a lot of 10:00AMs the checkout time though the check-in is 24 hours possible. Most people commute to the heart of Tokyo by train. People drink and eat while always considering the time of the last train because there are a lot of families that buy their wider and comfortable houses in suburbs. I have to emphasize that people will be bothered so much if they miss the last train. Taxi costs too much and no one loves sleeping outside. Under such disguising situation, "Capsule hotel" will proudly provide you with a comfortable and safe bed anytime for everyone (In the past, this kind of hotels were only for men but recently, hotels or floors for women only are newly appeared.) I believe that you will have a lot of invitations for welcome or farewell parties in the coming spring.
