| Curry and rice is one of the most popular dishes among Japanese people.
The present style of curry and rice; having covered the roux of curry over the steamed rice which is the Japanese staple food; is Japanese original style, which has been arranged in order to meet Japanese preference. But what we think of as the root of curry is Indian food (though some people say that it was originated in the English navy food). Besides curry and rice, we have various kinds of deep-fried foods mixed with curry powder and snacks with curry flavor. Thus we Japanese seem to love the taste of curry itself. Although we love curry taste so much, we have not many chances to eat real Indian foods, don't we? So, we are going to introduce you today the Indian restaurant "Ashoka" where you can have the genuine (real) Indian dishes. As situated in the building "Ginza Inz" located close to the Yurakucho station, "Ashoka" has very good access. There are various kinds of curry in the Indian foods. When you see the mashed
spinach curry, you won't realize it is curry because the color of it is
spinach itself! The kind of meat to be put in the curry is commonly chicken
or mutton. You may think that mutton smells strong, but you don't have
to worry about that because they are boiled well with spices and herbs.
When you choose your preferable curries, please have them with Nann, the
Indian bread. Please go ahead and tear the big and flat Nann into the small
pieces and dip them in the curry sauce. The chewy taste of Nann matches
up well with the spicy taste of curry. Besides curry, the Indian typical foods Tandoori Chicken and Seekh Kabab are also recommendable. Tandoori Chicken is roasted chicken with spices, and Seekh Kabab is stick shaped spicy minced meat. Both of them look spicy red color, but the taste is not so hot as you imagine by the color. And you can try the Indian special yogurt drink Lassi to get rid of the hot taste."Ashoka" has moved to the present location several years ago. According to some old regular customers, regrettably, the taste is not good as it used to be. But since it locates at very convenient place, please feel free to stop by to try Indian genuine food .
