The smothering heat wave has hit Japan and it has been setting record heat here and there everyday. At a time like this, ice-cold beer could help us out from murderous heat. In summer season, "Beer Garden" appears on the roof of department stores and courtyard of hotels. What is Beer Garden? It is so to say an outside "Izakaya (=Japanese style bar)". We have a party with ice-cold beer and various relish offers under the sparkling illuminations and music. Beear Garden could be one of summer institutions and customs of Japan. On a clear day, why don't you head over to a beer garden after work? <Japanese> 日本は夏真っ只中！ 熱波に見舞われ、各地で記録的暑さを更新中です。 こんなときは、やっぱりキーン☆と冷えたビールがたまりませんよね〜。 夏になると日本にはビアガーデンなるものが出現します。 ビアガーデンは 屋外の居酒屋とでも言いましょうか、デパートの屋上やホテルの中庭などに テーブルが設けられ、音楽が流れ、キラキラとライトアップされた中でビール とおつまみで盛り上がります。 ビアガーデンも日本の夏の風物詩のひとつ、仕事帰りにちょっと寄ってみては いかがでしょう。 さて、今週は英会話レッスンです。 簡単フレーズを沢山ご用意しました。 そのまんま覚えてガンガン使ってみましょう♪ =========================================================== + CONVERSATION LESSON #23 + http://www.jpn-miyabi.com/Vol.23/conversation23.html Emi : Have you already finished your work? John: Yeah, almost. Emi : How about drinking beer? John: Why not? Sounds good, let's go! <At a bar> Emi : How are you getting along? John: What do you mean? Emi : I know you're working hard and everything is going well, I'm asking about your private. John: Um... you know, we have several things...? Emi : What? I feel you don't speak out. What happened? John: She wants to continue the work after marriage. Emi : Oh, that's good. John: ... Emi : I see, that's not your wish. John: If we have a child in future, I want her to always be with kids. Emi : Oooh, you've not got married yet. I think she is allowed to work until getting a baby. John: But, I guess she will not want to quit a job if she continues her work. Emi : Umm... could be. John: Yes? Emi : But you said you were the best partner and able to understand than anyone. Don't feel so nervous. If you talk it out with her, it's going to be well. John: Is it so simple? Emi : Not easy. But you have to do your best each other. You love her, don't you? John: Yes. I love her and she is the only one. Emi : What? Why do I have to give advice and hear of your love affairs?! <Japanese> Emi : 仕事終わった？ John: あぁ、だいたい終わった。 Emi : ビール飲みに行かない？ John: いいね、行こう！ (( バーで )) Emi : 最近どお？ John: どおって？ Emi : 仕事はバリバリなのは知ってるわよ。 プライベート。 彼女と上手くいってる？ John: うーん、色々・・・あるよね。 Emi : なに？ なんか奥歯に物が挟まってる感じ。何かあったの？ John: 彼女がさ、結婚しても仕事続けるって言うんだよ。 Emi : あら、いいじゃない。 John: ・・・。 Emi : Johnは嫌なのね。 John: やっぱり、子供とか出来たらさ、いつも子供のそばにいて欲しいんだよね。 Emi : あらら、まだ結婚もしてないのに。 子供ができるまでは彼女も仕事してても いいんじゃない？ John: でも、仕事を続けていたら辞められなくなるんじゃないかな。 Emi : んー、そうね。それはありうるかも。 John: でしょ？ Emi : でも、お互いが一番の理解者だって言ってたじゃない。 よく話し合えば大丈夫よ。 John: そんなに簡単にいくかな。 Emi : 簡単じゃないわよー。でも頑張るの、お互いにね。 大切なんでしょ？ John: うん、一番大切な人かな。 Emi : なぁにそれ〜?! 相談されてのろけられたらたまんないわ。 "Why not?" 「だめなわけないよ」という意味ですが、「もちろん、ＯＫさ！」に 近いニュアンスで使います。 "How are you getting along?" 「最近どお？」の意味。 これを「【誰々とは】最近どお？」とする ときは、alongの後ろに with + 人 を付けるだけです。 How are you getting along with her? 「彼女とは最近どうなの？」 "I feel you don't speak out." 「奥歯に物が挟まっている感じ」をここではspeak out 【遠慮なく話す ・思い切って言う】を使って表現しています。 in future: 今後 in the future と in futureはどちらも「将来は」「今後は」 という意味 ですが、in the future はin the past や in the present と対照的な意味を表す場合に使い、上記会話のような場合 では in future （または in the near future）の方が一般的です。 could be: 【口語】そうかも、たぶん talk out: （問題を）徹底的に論じる、〜を討論（話し合いで）で 解決する =========================================================== *BACK NUMBER: http://www.jpn-miyabi.com/Menu/backnumber-top.html *CONTACT US: Please feel free to send your request or question of Japanese life.
