But like the rest, I suffered a crushing defeat again. Speaking of the Takarakuji, we introduce contrasting incidents this year. The first one is that a criminal robbed 4,400 sheets of the public lottery at the lottery counter. Fortunately he was arrested before long and the police closed the case soon after that. However, it was proved afterwards that all the lottery tickets he robbed were lowest tickets and the total sum of the prize of raffle was only 80 thousands yen. The other one is that someone made a gift of a winning ticket of two hundred million yen to Prefectural Government of Fukui, where torrential rainstorm hit and caused serious damages on civic life. I am sure that anyone who heard the news should ask himself, "If I were in his shoes, what should I do?" Of course I was impressed by this news as well. But, I wonder if I could donate even for a half of the prize of raffle. Thus I learned that the greedy people like me and the guy on the news never win a lottery. What is your opinion? Well, this week, we are going to present two articles, Japanese conversation lesson and recipe. In the conversation, Jealous Lucy appears again. <Japanese> 残念でした〜。 先週、日本では最高３億円が当たるサマージャンボ 宝くじの抽選がありました。そして私の場合、結果はまたまた惨敗。 宝くじといえば、今年になって対照的なニュースが２つありましたね。 ひとつは、宝くじ売り場から４４００枚の宝くじを盗んだ犯人が逮捕 され一件落着。その後の調べで、４４００枚のうち当たりくじは末等 のみで換金額は約８万円だったという話。もうひとつは、集中豪雨に 見舞われ大きな被害が出た福井県の県庁に匿名で２億円の当たりくじ が寄付されたという話です。後者のニュースを聞いて、誰もが自分だ ったらどうする？と考えたのではないでしょうか。私もこのニュース に感動したものの、私だったら半分も寄付出来るだろうか・・と疑問 に思いました。 前述の犯人にしても私にしても、楽してお金を得よ うという人には当たらないものなのかもしれませんね。 皆さんはどう思われました？ 話は変わって、「英語のまぐまぐ」で本誌が紹介されました！ これからも皆さんのご期待に沿えるよう、頑張りますので どうぞ変わらぬご愛顧のほど、宜しくお願いしまっす。 さて、今週は簡単英会話とレシピの２本立てです。 やきもちLucyの再登場です。 ＜来週は文化・風習の紹介です♪＞ ============================================================ + CONVERSATION LESSON+ http://www.jpn-miyabi.com/Vol.24/conversation24.html Lucy: Jack, I saw you with another girl. Lucy: Are you sure??? <Japanese> Lucy: ジャック、私、あなたが他の女性といるのを見たんだけど･･･。 Jack: いつ？ どこで？ Lucy: おととい、六本木で。 Jack: 六本木？ おとといなんて誰とも会っていないよ。 でも、だとしたら、なんで声かけてくれなかったの？ Lucy: あの人誰？ Jack: ちょっと、ちょと、本当に誰とも会っていないんだけど。 Lucy: なんで約束守ってくれないの？ 結婚する前に、他の女性と会う 時は言ってくれるって約束したじゃない。 Jack: 待ってよ、落ち着いてくれよ。その女の人、どんな感じの人だった？ Lucy: 長い金髪ですごく綺麗な人だった。 Jack: うーん、、、 わかった！ 旅行で日本に来てた子だ！ 渋谷までの行き方を聞かれたんだよ。 Lucy: 嘘つかないで。 Jack: 嘘じゃないよ！ 説明させてくれよ。彼女は日本が始めてで、 だから渋谷までの行き方と他に色々アドバイスしてあげたんだよ。 Lucy: けど､あなたほっぺを赤くしちゃってなんだか楽しそうだったわ。 Jack: だってさ、彼女、僕達と一緒のから来た子だったんだよ！ Lucy: ほんと？ Jack: そう！ Lucy: それはすごいわね。 Jack: だから、僕もなんだか嬉しくなっちゃって、ついつい話し込んだって わけ。日本にいる間、何か困ったことがあったら連絡するように電話 番号も教えたよ。 Lucy: そうだったの。つい興奮してしまってごめんなさい。 - プルルル、プルルル･･･ - Lucy: Jack､あなたに電話よ。Christineて誰？ Jack: 彼女だよ！ ねっ？ Lucy: 本当？？？ -------------------------------------------------------------------- even if 〜: たとえ〜だとしても call out: 大声で呼ぶ、声をかける break one's promise: 約束を破る keep one's promise 約束を守る promiseだけで「約束する」の意味もあります。 get married: 結婚する = marry We have been married 10 years. 「私達は結婚して１０年になります。」 Calm down.: 落ち着きなさい、気をつけなさい calmは「静まる」という意味があります。 【例】The crying baby calmed down. 泣いていた赤ん坊は静かになった。 tell a lie: 嘘をつく 【関連表現】Stop teasing me! 「からかわないで。」「冗談はやめて。」 反対に「冗談だよ」は "Just kidding."とか"It's joke."ですね。 with a blush on one's cheek: 紅潮して、ほおを赤らめて Her face was flushed with joy. 「彼女は嬉しくて紅潮した。」という言い方も 出来ます。 That's amazing!: すごい！ びっくり！ Amazing! だけでもＯＫです。 日本語の「ほんとに?!」「マジ？!」と同じくらい 頻繁に使われます。 That's why: だから 会話の流れで「だから、〜だったんだ（だったのよ）」という 場合によく使われます。 もちろん so 〜 でも言い換え可能。 during: 【前置詞】〜の間ずっと、〜の間中 duringは特定の期間を通じて、つまり状態が継続していることを 意味する場合に使います。時を表わす接続詞 while に言い換え可能。 不特定の期間を指す場合はforを用います。 Call for you.: 「（あなたに）電話よ。」 【関連表現】電話で「どちら様ですか？」は "Who is this please?" "Who's calling, please?"
